For a kind young man like LeBron James to tweet something like that, you have to figure something is up. The King of South Beach dropped that bomb late last night, at the same time his former Cleveland Cavalier teammates were locked in a fourth quarter battle in Los Angeles against the Lakers, a game they eventually dropped in historic fashion, 112-57. Ugly, ugly stuff.
Cleveland took its talent to the West Coast as a loser of 20 of 21 games and having lost Anderson Varejao, arguably its best player, for the season over the weekend with a torn ankle tendon. Needless to say, this wasn’t quite the Cavs team that had beaten Kobe Bryant and his boys seven times in 10 games over the past five seasons. The Lakers led 27-12 after a quarter, 57-25 at the half and 92-41 through 36 minutes, which marked the largest lead through three quarters in any game since 2001. A 20-16 fourth accounted for the final, which came out as one of the most crooked in NBA history. Through it all, Los Angeles needed only 25 minutes and 13 points from Bryant, 11 of which came in the third quarter.
As for James’ tweet, it’s definitely in part for Dan Gilbert going all comic sans on him over the summer and certainly won’t do anything to endear himself to poor little ex-teammate Daniel Gibson, who’s likely still stirring from LeBron’s lack of empathy in Cleveland last month. Come on now, big fella — let’s be nice. As if the little fists of fury James and Dwyane Wade have been unleashing on the league in the past month haven’t been mean enough…
