Jason Garrett is 1-0 as an NFL Head Coach

A week after I declared the Giants the best team in the NFL, this happens. The Giants were at home against a Dallas team wasn’t worth talking about anymore (unless you were cracking jokes) and were completely outplayed by the ‘Boys. Backup QB Jon Kitna threw three touchdown passes and 327 yards in Jason Garrett’s first game as head coach, after Jerry Jones fired Wade Phillips earlier in the week. Most analysts believe the Cowboys quit on their team a few weeks ago when the team started falling out of contention, but it looks like they’ll give one last push. It’s too late for the playoffs, but Jason Garrett could be in the mix for the head coaching  job next year with a strong finish.

In a potential AFC title game preview, the Patriots returned to dominance again with a convincing 39-26 win over the Patriots. After struggling since Randy Moss’ departure several weeks ago, Tom Brady was excellent against the Steelers tough D, posting 350 yards and 3 touchdown passes, with Rob Gronkowski catching all of those TD’s. With the win, the Pats are tied at the top of the AFC East at 7-2.

With the Chargers on bye, I took in the Jets and Browns game on Sunday afternoon, aside from the Jets winning, I was not disappointed. The Jets won with just a few seconds left in OT, 26-20 on a long Santonio Holmes catch and run play. It’s an unfortunate loss for the Browns, after an impressive game tying drive by Browns rookie QB Colt McCoy in the 2 minute drill. The Jets are tied with the Pats atop the AFC East at 7-2.

In Denver, the Broncos got another big day from Kyle Orton as the Broncos blew out the formerly first place Chiefs, 49-29. The game was never in reach for the Chiefs, as Orton threw three touchdowns in the first quarter and four on the whole day. Tim Tebow also threw his first career TD pass and added another one on the ground. This loss has to be devestating for the Chiefs, who were playing incredibly well defensively in the early part of the year.

In other games:

The Jaguars topped the Texans on a huge hail marry pass to win the game, 31-24. Mike Thomas picked up a deflected David Garrard pass on a play that will certainly be replayed several times before the end of the year.

The Bills finally picked up their first win of the year, 14-12, with a couple of touchdowns from Fred Jackson.

The Bears re-ignited the “countdown until Brad Childress gets fired” with a 27-13 win over Minnesota. Brett Favre was just awful in this game.

The Titans knocked out both of Miami’s quarterbacks, but it still didn’t matter with the Dolphins coming out on top 29-17. Randy Moss made his Titans debut, and did about as much as he did in Minnesota this year.

Despite and average Peyton Manning, the Colts got ahead of the Bengals quickly and never looked back, finishing with a 23-17 victory.

The Buccanneers got back to their winning ways, dominating the Panthers 31-16.

The Seahawks took control of the NFC West, with a big 36-18 win over the Cardinals.

And lastly, the Rams took the Niners to Overtime, before a Joe Nedney field goal won the game for San Francisco 23-20.
