Ville Leino picked up a power play goal in the first period
It’s not time to panic or anything, but Leafs fans might be a little concerned after getting blown out 5-2 to the Flyers on Saturday night. The defending Eastern Conference champions were in complete control the entire game, outshooting Toronto 40-14. It was an enjoyable two weeks for Leafs fans on top of the standings, but with the loss and a Habs win last night, Toronto is now tied with Montreal for the Northeast division lead.
For the Leafs, it was the usual suspects on the scoresheet. Phil Kessel and Clarke MacArthur continued their strong starts to the season, each picking up their 6th of the season. This puts them in a tie with Sidney Crosby for 5th in the league in goals. Mike Komisarek, Francois Beauchemin and Nikolai Kulemin all picked up assists for the Leafs. J.S. Giguere gave his best effort, making 35 saves.
For the Flyers, the big star tonight was their Captain Mike Richards, who finally scored his first of the year, and added two assists. Blair Betts, Danny Briere, Ville Leino and Scott Hartnell also scored. No word on whether or not Hartnell’s goal is related to him finally cutting his ridiculous hair. Brian Boucher only had to make 12 saves for Philly, who gave fans something to celebrate after the Phillies were eliminated by the Giants about an hour later.
And so it begins…
A little humbling for Leafs fans to realize four straight wins at the start of the season doesn’t guarantee a Stanley Cup (granted, I don’t think any amount of losses in a row could convince some otherwise).

There’s just not a whole lot of depth on the team. Phil Kessel is fantastic, and if they get 30 goals out of MacArthur then that’s great too. They have a good shot at the playoffs, but they’ll need some secondary scoring.
