Despite a quiet top line and an average performance from Jonas Gustavsson, the Toronto Maple Leafs are now the Kansas City Chiefs of the NHL after beating the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 Wednesday night. The Leafs now move to 3-0-0 with the win, and dreams of an 82 win season that most Leafs fans talked about with me over the weekend are still alive.
Newcomer Clarke MacArthur continues to lead the way on offense, picking up 2 goals in the win, giving him 4 in just 3 games. Sniper Colton Orr picked up his first on the year, as did Francois Beauchemin. Luke Schenn picked up 2 assists in the game, including a nice shot that was tipped by Orr to open up the scoring. The Leafs were outshot in this game 25-14, and the top line of Phil Kessel, Kris Versteeg and Tyler Bozak combined for just 2 shots all game. Obviously, when you have a Rocket Richard frontrunner like Clarke MacArthur in your lineup, it doesn’t matter.
As for the Penguins, they move to a disappointing 1-3 record with the loss. Marc Andre-Fleury was brutal, making just 10 saves tonight. Chris Kunitz, Max Talbot, and someone named Sidney Crosby all picked up their first goals of the year in a losing effort for the Pens.
The Leafs will try and keep their momentum going by travelling to New York to face the Rangers on Friday night, and then they’ll head to Nassau to take on the Islanders on Monday.

Leafs continue to surprise, move to 3-0…
