Once they’re eliminated tonight, the Cincinnati Reds should get together with the Minnesota Twins and have a slow-pitch softball game, with the loser crowned the worst team to ever appear in the MLB postseason. In case you missed it, the Twins completed their annual first round three-and-own, bowing to New York 6-1 last night at Yankee Stadium. The Reds and Phillies go in the third game of today’s tripleheader at 8:07, following the Rays and Rangers at 1:07 and the Giants and Braves at 4:37.
The Twins loss marked their 12th straight in postseason play, nine of which have come against the Yankees, and dropped them to 3-19 since 2002. Unlike the first two games at Target Field, Minnesota never had a lead to blow — starter Brian Duensing gave up runs in the second and third on singles to Jorge Posada and Mark Teixeira, and a two-run homer by Marcus Thames all but put it to bed in the fourth. Remarkably, one-month wonder Phil Hughes tossed seven shutout innings for the Yankees, though the opposition has to be taken into account when considering how well he actually pitched.
Tampa Bay and Texas played in the early game yesterday, with the Rays scoring twice in the eighth off Darren Oliver to take a 3-2 lead before eventually winning 6-3. With that, they’re back in it, down 2-1 with Wade Davis on the hill against Tommy Hunter this afternoon.

Thank you again Twinkies for another great series. Don’t you ever change

Kansas City might as well make the playoffs out of the Central next year. They stand just as good a chance as any of those other hacks…
