All it took was an accidental tweet by ESPN columnist Bill Simmons to turn a dull Tuesday into a rather interesting one. Simmons accidentally tweeted that the New England Patriots are working on a deal that would send star Wide Reciever Randy Moss back to the Minnesota Vikings while trying to send a direct message about it to a friend. Minutes later, Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer confirmed the story, saying the deal was contingent on Moss signing an extension with the Vikings.
The trade is not official yet, but it would be shocking if it’s actually completed. Moss has been unhappy with the Pats after they refused to sign him to an extension in the offseason, and reportedly requested a trade after Week 1. However, the Patriots are about to enter a playoff race with the New York Jets, and losing one of their top players may not be the best way to get that started. On the other hand, Brett Favre is probably getting excited. Favre has long been an admirer of Moss, and would be an excellent addition to a Vikes team that is clearly going for it all this year. This story is not over yet, though, so stay tuned.

Looks like this one is all but in the book. I’m surprised the Pats just dumped him like that…I mean, with a year left on his deal, they’re still a much better team with him. I’d deal with the headache if it gives a better shot at winning it all.
