Bust out the Adenhart jersey -- it's party time in LA

So long, David Ortiz & co.! The Angels scored five times in the final two innings this afternoon at Fenway to win 7-6 and sweep the Red Sox, somewhat softening the blow that’s likely to come later tonight when the Yankees do the same to the Twins.

After scoring just once in the first two games of the series, Boston scored three times in the third and added a pair in the fourth, grabbing a 5-1 lead and looking well on their way to extending the set. Then playoff legend Jonathan Papelbon went to work.

Papelbon inherited a two runners with two down in the eighth and a 5-2 lead, prompltly giving up a single to cash a pair and cut Boston’s lead to one. After an insurance run made it 6-4, Papelbon retired the first two Angels to the plate in the ninth. Money in the bank, right? Well, not so much. A single, walk, double and intentional walk set up a bases-loaded, two-out scenario for Vladdy Guerrero, whose single to center scored two to seal a 7-6 win.

So, that does it for Papelbon. That does it for Ortiz and his .083 average for the series. That does it for young Dustin Pedroia. Kevin Youkilis — see ya next year! As for the faith in baseball I lost with Phil Cuzzi’s gaffe Friday night? Well, some is restored.
