Jason Frasor deals while myself and a handful of fans look on
22,620 — not a bad crowd for a midweek game against Minnesota. Not good, however, when it’s the combined crowd for the final two games of a series. The Jays drew a Rogers Centre record-low 11,159 (paid attendance — not turnstiles, which would probably put the number closer to 7,000) for last night’s 4-1 loss to the Twins and followed with a racuous crowd of 11,461 for today’s matinee, a 3-2 win. The four-game set drew a total of 49,261 fans (again, ticket sales).
The low turnout comes as no surprise — it’s September, the Jays suck, there aren’t any intriguing storylines (aside from what Tommy Tippytoes down in right field might do next) and the Twins are a bad draw. If I wasn’t busy getting hit by Vernon Wells foul balls, I wouldn’t be watching either.
As for the Jays, they’re headed to Detroit to start a four-game series Friday night. Brian Tallet gets the ball against the Tigers’ Nate Robertson in the opener.
