Rzepzynski, making quick work of Vlad & co.
Jays win! Jays win! Well, they did last night, then lost today. Still, one out of two ain’t that bad these days. Last night’s 5-4 win was marred by another late bullpen collapse, but Casey Janssen was able to strand the tying run on second in the ninth after already giving up a three-run homer (two of those runs courtesy of Brandon League) in the inning. Toronto didn’t fare as well today though, falling 7-3.
Mark Rzepczynski pitched well last night, despite the guy sitting behind me declaring the game over after Chone Figgins led off the first with a single. The rookie left with a 5-0 lead with one out in the seventh but was charged with a run when Josh Roenicke surrendered a two-out RBI double to Kendry Morales. Scott Richmond was solid this afternoon as well, striking out 10 over seven innings, but fell victim to a three-run third and a Vladdy Guerrero solo homer in the sixth. Of course, the Toronto bullpen put things out of reach, with Brian Tallet doing the honours in the eighth this time around.
Well, at least we’re not getting swept this time around (how depressing of a statement is that?). The series wraps up tomorrow with Ricky Romero and Troy Bell going head-to-head.
