Ricky Romero played the role of both the 27-14 start and the nine-game losing streak last night
For the Jays’ season in a nutshell, look no further than Friday night’s loss to Baltimore: They jump out to an early 3-0 lead (27-14), see it all disappear in one inning (0-9), then watch things get extremely ugly late (their current free fall) before tacking on a couple runs to make it respectable, just like they’ll probably win a few games in September to make this season look not-so-bad. In the end, a 7-5 loss to one of the worst teams in all of baseball. Oh well, at least the uniforms looked amazing.
Now, the on field ceremonies — great stuff. It was cool to see so many of the old faces back in town and in uniform. The ovations gave me the chills, and credit to Dave Winfield for pulling out his famous “Winfield wants noise” line. Here’s a fun fact, by the way: Juan Guzman was issued a #57 jersey, which was the number he wore in ’96 and ’97, his last two seasons in Toronto. In ’92 and ’93, he wore #66. Yeah, I probably shouldn’t have noticed something like that, but unfortunately I did.
