He gone
With basketball season in Toronto having ended what seems like six months ago, I’d almost forgotten we had a team here. Well, just in case other Raptors fans had lost track as well, here’s a painful reminder of the team’s existence: Chris Bosh told reporters yesterday he won’t sign an extension this summer and plans to test the free agent market after next season. Okay, so that was the worst kept secret in the history of the world, but I guess you can say it’s official now.
“When I signed a three-year extension in 2006,” he told reporters, “I had a goal in mind, and that was to put myself in the best position in 2010. There’s a reason why I did things the way I did back then.”
Yeah, so he could opt out and sign a bigger contract. Well, I guess that means he has one more year to make it through without suffering a career-ending injury and it’ll prove to have been a good decision. Nevertheless, Bryan Colangelo has a decision to make — does he let his best player walk, or does he seek a trade? Given that Bosh would most likely be a rental, his best bet may be waiting until the deadline and finding a team desperate for an upgrade. Let’s see what happens!
