Wakefield blows Jays away in opener

Alright, so the first go-round at Fenway wasn’t all I’d dreamt it to be — It started with Jays fans learning they’d be treated to NESN’s broadcast of the game, an interesting move on the part of TSN2, which hyped its coverage of the series and its newly-announced free preview on Rogers. That’s a good way to get people interesting in picking up the new channel. All in all, though, NESN’s coverage wasn’t horrible, and Heidi Watney was a nice upgrade over Sam Cosentino.

Next, the actual game: Brian Tallet pitched well again, but Toronto decided to swing early and often against Tim Wakefield, a strategy I can’t argue with since I’ve never faced a knuckleballer other than on The Show ’07. The end result — a 2-1 Boston win.

The Jays look to get back on track tonight, with rookie lefty Brett Cecil facing Brad Penny, also known as Alyssa Milano’s washed up sloppy seconds. Then again, which major leaguer hasn’t been with Alyssa Milano at least twice?
