Celebrating the life and times of Lyle Overbay
Step aside, LeBron James — Lyle Overbay is now officially the man. Overbay’s 12th inning walk-off gave the Jays a 4-2 win over the Athletics this afternoon, their ninth in 13 games to start the season.
The bullpen also did their part — Shawn Camp, Scott Downs, B.J. Ryan (!), Jesse Carlson and Jason Frasor combined for six-and-two-thirds of one-hit ball after Brian Tallet, filling in for the injured Jesse Litsch, pitched into the sixth inning on just 67 pitches.
This was a big one, especially considering last night’s collapse. Speaking of last night, here’s something I noticed — David Purcey is a young, three-foot taller and less infuriated version of Ted Lilly. He seems to have good stuff, but is he gonna be able to harness it? Well, the good news for him is that Lilly never did and still landed $40 million.
