Wang, making himself the subject of many, many jokes
Yeah, that title was totally inappropriate, but in another sense, extremely fitting. The Indians lay a beating on the Yankees’ starter today, scoring eight of their 14 second inning runs (yes, you read that correctly — 14 in one inning) off Wang in an eventual 22-4 win. I don’t know about you, but I’m really liking this new Yankee Stadium.
This is the third straight time Wang has been pounded to start the season — he gave up seven runs in three-and-two-thirds in his first start against Baltimore and eight in an inning-plus against Tampa Bay on Monday. If you’re keeping track, Wang has surrendered 23 earned runs in six innings this season for a tidy ERA of 34.50.
The 14 runs, by the way, were the most in an inning since Boston scored that many in the first against Florida in 2003. Also of note, Cleveland manager Eric Wedge stuck with his starters most of the game (he used two backups, both late), which is absolutely fine by me.
