Jay Cutler, being sad
The Detroit Lions have a new starting quarterback, and his name is Jay Cutler. At least in a perfect world that would be the case. Poor little Cutler is officially on the block after ignoring calls from Broncos’ head coach Josh McDaniels and owner Pat Bowlen for the past 10 days.
To be honest, I felt for Cutler when Peyton Manning dumped him and his insulin pump in the pool at the Pro Bowl. This time around, however, things are different. In case you missed it, little Cutler got a bit sensitive when Denver showed some interest in Matt Cassel last month and demanded a trade even after Cassel ended up in Kansas City. So what, it’s a business — and when you’re the quarterback of a team that choked as much as the Broncos last season, you’re as fair game as anybody. Yeah, the little man threw for over 4,500 yards last season, but he also put it up 616 times, second only to Drew Brees. His passer rating was 16th among starters, or lower than Shaun Hill and Seneca Wallace.
Okay, okay — So Cutler’s a great young quarterback, and not to say I wouldn’t prefer him to Hill or Wallace, but why does the guy have to be so sensitive? Like I said, Detroit is always looking for a quarterback, because Daunte Culpepper sure didn’t look like the answer…
