Blake Griffin and Tyler Hansbrough, together again as All-Americans
A day after getting the boot from the NCAA tournament, Blake Griffin was the only unanimous selection for The Associated Press’ All-American team. Griffin, who averaged 21 points and 14 rebounds as a sophomore at Oklahoma, is joined by UNC’s Tyler Hansbrough, Pitt’s DaJuan Blair, Arizona’s James Harden and Davidson’s Stephen Curry (who we all know should’ve declared for the NBA Draft last year).
Griffin, meanwhile, got a vote of confidence from UNC coach Roy Williams yesterday after the Tar Heels beat the Sooners 72-60 in their Elite Eight matchup:
“He’s a load,” Williams said after the game. “Please don’t make this comparison — but he is LeBron James-like. He’s got such a package of strength, explosiveness, touch, power.”
Umm, that sounds like a comparison to me. And you can’t take it back either, Coach Williams! Personally, and with all due respect, I’d be quicker to compare Griffin to a Cabbage Patch Kid (which I can’t take credit for — I owe that one to the incredible Sports Hernia). Nevertheless, we’ll see what this kid can do in the NBA, because it’s looking like that’s where he’ll be come late-June.
